     Born on 2 August 1916 in Cracow. In 1936 he joined the Air Force Cadet Officers' School at Deblin. He was commissioned in September 1938 as a pilot. He was posted to the 123rd Fighter Flight of the 2nd Air Regiment in Cracow, but in October he transferred to the 122nd Fighter Flight. In August 1939 he was posted as a flying instructor fighter at the Flying School at Ulez. In September 1939 he flew in combat in the ad hoc Instructors' Fighter Flight at U[ez . On 17 September he crossed the Rumanian border. Following a short internment, he left Rumania by sea and arrived at Marseilles on 30 October 1939. He then went to Britain in one of

the first groups of Polish airmen from France. He received service no. 76690. In Britain, in mid-July 1940 he was sent to No. 15 Elementary Flying Training School at Carlisle, and in August he trained on Hurricanes at No. 6 OTU Sutton Bridge. On 31 August 1940 he was posted to No. 56 Squadron RAF at North Weald. On 10 September 1940 he transferred to No. 17 Squadron RAF at Debden. With both these squadrons he fought in the Battle of Britain. On 20 March 1941 he transferred to No. 55 OTU at Annan. Over the next eight months he was an instructor at Nos 55, 56 and 61 OTUs. On 5 November 1941 he was posted to No. 308 Squadron, and then on 13 June 1942 he was appointed 'B' flight commander in No. 302 Squadron. As the flight commander, between 14 January and 15 February 1943 he was the acting squadron commander. From 17 May he was on staff postings in the HQ of the 2nd Polish Fighter Wing. From 21 September 1943 until 26 January 1944 he flew with No. 317 Squadron. In January 1944 he was posted to the HQ No. 18 (Polish) Sector RAF. From 28 August 1944 until 9 May 1945 he commanded No. 317 Squadron, which at the time was part of No. 131 (Polish) Wing. In December 1945 he was posted to the Ferry Pool of the Enemy Aircraft Servicing and Storage Unit at Hamburg-Fuhlsbuttel. On 8 August 1946 he was released from service.In 1948 he returned to Poland. He then worked for many years in the water-supply company in Zabrze. He died on 28 March 1988 in Gliwice. He is buried in the city cemetery at Nowy Sacz.
